Samsung Electronics America, Inc. showcased its new DVD recorder, the DVD-R4000, at the 2003 CEDIA EXPO. The DVD-R4000 uses the DVD-RAM and DVD-R formats, and can store up to six hours (4.7 GB) on a single DVD-R. The DVD-R4000 includes one-touch and timer recording, also picture icon bookmarking, live picture pause and replay, and the ability to record and play back at the same time. ""We are very excited about the upcoming release of our new DVD-R, the DVD-R4000, which we are confident will set the benchmark as the future of DVD-based recorders,"" states Claude Frank, Samsung Electronics America's Director for Digital Audio/Video. ""Samsung has decided to release a DVD recorder that includes all of the features in consumer VCRs, and add to it the features only obtained with a DVD."" The DVD-R4000 will play CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, MP3s (through CD), DVD-R, and VCDs, and includes DolbyÆ Digital, DTSÆ, and progressive scan video output.
