Samsung Electronics America, Inc. introduced its new plasma TV line for 2003 at the 2003 CEDIA EXPO, the third generation of plasma TVs from Samsung's plasma plant in Chonan, South Korea. These widescreen, fan-less plasma displays feature built-in NTSC TV tuners, and include the 42-inch SPN4235, the 42-inch HPN4239, the 50-inch HPN5039, and the 63-inch HPN6339, a CEDIA Daily Hot 50 award winner. With the new design, Samsung's latest plasmas are just 3 inches deep and boast a contrast ratio of 1,200:1 and brightness of 800 cd/m2. They include Samsung's DNIeô (Digital Natural Image engineô) and DVI with HDCP. An optional pneumatic pedestal stand will be available for the 42-inch (FS420) and 50-inch (FS500) models that can be adjusted, low or high, and can be swiveled. The entry model in Samsung's plasma lineup is the currently available SPN4235, a DTV monitor with 852 x 480-pixel resolution (MSRP $4,499). Samsung is also offering the 42-inch HPN4239 (1024 x 768), available in November ($5,999), the 50-inch HPN5039 (1366 x 768), available now ($8,999), and the 63-inch HPN6339 (1366 x 768), available now ($19,999). Each of Samsung's plasmas is Class B-certified for residential applications and use Samsung's fan-less design. All models have integrated dual analog tuners built-in with an RF connector. The audio power of the on-board amp is up to 10 watts x 2 and there is an output for a powered subwoofer.
