7-Oct-03

JVC introduced a two-tuner high-definition DISH Networkô satellite receiver/digital video recorder (DVR), the TU-DVR921. The new receiver delivers standard- and high-definition (HD) satellite TV programming in 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i resolutions, can record standard and HD content on its built-in hard drive, and includes an integrated ATSC 8VSB tuner for reception of off-air analog and digital broadcasts. ""With the introduction of the TU-DVR921, JVC offers consumers access to a full range of HD programming,"" said Al Levene, Vice President, Special Markets/New Products, JVC Company of America. ""It also provides the convenience of a digital video recorder for pausing live TV and archiving material for playback whenever the user desires."" For delivering an HD signal to an HDTV, the TU-DVR921 offers DVI-HDTV (with HDCP) and HD component video outputs. It also offers the DISHWireô audio/video connection which will be enabled in the future for use with compatible IEEE 1394 D-VHS VCRs, composite video outputs for viewing downconverted HD content on a standard-definition TV or to record it to a VCR, and an optical S/PDIF output for DolbyÆ Digital and PCM. The unit's built-in DVR allows the user to pause live TV and record up to 180 hours of standard-definition programming or up to 25 hours of high-definition content, or a combination of both. It can record DISH Network programming as well as off-air digital broadcasts, and records Dolby Digital when available. With two tuners, the JVC TU-DVR921 offers standard-definition picture-in-picture (PIP), can record two live programs at the same time, record a live program while watching another live program, and record two live programs while watching another recorded program. The unit also has four fast-forward and reverse speeds and slow-motion and frame-by-frame playback. To search for programming there's a seven-day electronic program guide (EPG), accessible using with the UHF Pro four-component universal remote control with PIP functions.
