JVC DVD/VCR Line Expansion Includes Industry's First S-VHS Model

JVC is expanding its line-up of DVD/VCR combination units. Among the new combo models is the industry's first S-VHS model, the JVC HR-XVS44U. Both the DVD/S-VHS HR-XVS44U and the new DVD/VHS HR-XVC33U are full-featured models, and include progressive scan DVD playback also JVC's one-chip A/V decoder. A single S-video cable provides S-video output from both the DVD player and VCR sections. In addition, the DVD/VHS Auto Select feature automatically selects DVD or VCR playback when the software is inserted. Both units can play back a range of discs and file formats, including DVD-Video, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R, CD audio, CD-R/RW, and Video CD. In addition, they can play MP3, WMA, and JPEG files burned to a CD-R. Other shared DVD player features include Quick Start, which displays an image about three seconds after the disc is inserted, Express Playback (1.5x), Variable Search (forward/reverse), Variable Slow (forward/reverse), parental lock, 3-D Phonic, three-step zoom play, and angle list. Both decks also offer DVD-to-VCR copying (units will not copy Macrovision-protected discs), VCR recording during DVD playback, multi-brand remote, multi 12-digit display, optical/coaxial digital audio output with DTSÆ pass-through for the DVD player, front A/V inputs, component video output, and S-Video output. The HR-XVC33U offers S-VHS Quasi Playback, which allows playback of tapes recorded in S-VHS with VHS resolution. Both decks feature a sleek, low-profile design and a silver finish.
