JVC HD Lineup Expands With New HD Flat-Panel TVs, HD DVR/Satellite Tuner And New D-VHS Recorder/Player

8-Oct-03

JVC has expanded its HD Universe with the introduction of its first LCD and consumer plasma TVs, a high-definition digital video recorder/satellite receiver, and a new D-VHSÆ recorder/player. The new HD introductions complement the other products that comprise JVC's HD Universe and strengthen JVC's position as the only company that offers consumers the ability to create, play, archive and display high-definition content. It was the recent launch of the JVC GR-HD1, the first high-definition consumer camcorder, that put the power to create HD content into consumers' hands. To record HD broadcasts, archive HD material and play D-Theaterô high-definition feature films, JVC offers the new HM-DH40000 D-VHS deck. And to watch HD content, JVC offers a full line of HD televisions, including direct-view and rear-projection sets, and now expands its HDTV offering with LCD and plasma models. ""JVC is committed to a leadership role in high-definition technologies, as evidenced by our invention of the D-VHS format and introduction of the world's first high-definition consumer camcorder,"" said Craig Geiger, Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, JVC Company of America. ""Now we're fortifying our position with new flat-panel TVs and an integrated HD digital video recorder and satellite receiver."" JVC's flat-panel TV introductions include a pair of 42-inch plasmas: the PD-42WX84, an XGA panel, and the PD-42WV74, a VGA panel. Both feature JVC's Digital Image Scaling Technology (D.I.S.T.), color management, two HD component video inputs, HD Range Digital Super Detail (DSD) edge correction circuitry and Natural Cinema 3:2 pulldown. In LCD, JVC is introducing the LT-26WX84, a 26-inch WXGA model with D.I.S.T., color management, an HD component video input, HD Range DSD edge correction circuitry, and Natural Cinema 3:2 pulldown. JVC's TU-DVR921RU high-definition DVR/satellite receiver combines a two-tuner DISH Networkô receiver that outputs 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i resolutions with a digital video recorder that can store up to 180 hours of standard-definition content or up to 25 hours of high-definition content. JVC's new D-VHS deck, the HM-DH40000, stands apart from previous models by offering a new LS5 mode that provides up to 40 hours of VHS-quality programming on a single cassette, two-channel PCM audio, and a new color on-screen menu display and tape navigation system that simplifies operation. JVC's GR-HD1 is the first consumer camcorder able to record and play back in 16:9 480/60p and 16:9 720/30p (MPEG-2 compression), as well as in 4:3 480i (DV compression). Important factors in making this possible are a newly developed 1/3-inch, 1.18-million-pixel progressive scan CCD and JVC proprietary signal processing. The GR-HD1's upconverter converts 720/30p digital HD images and 480p progressive wide images to the 1080i high-definition standard for viewing on the latest HD display devices. The down-converter converts images to conventional NTSC 480i broadcast standard video. ""With our new HD introductions, JVC now has the most comprehensive HD product roster in the industry,"" said Geiger. ""We have clearly staked out a leadership position and we fully intend to strengthen that position in the coming months."" For more information about JVC Company of America, visit www.jvc.com.
