Onkyo Introduces New Receiver With Net-Tune Ethernet Digital Music Access

Onkyo has announced immediate dealer shipments of its TX-NR801 Net-Tuneô home theatre receiver. This is Onkyo's second home theatre receiver with Net-Tune technology for access to digital music files over a home PC network, with a $1,000 price tag.The Onkyo TX-NR801 is a seven-channel, 100-watt THXÆ Select audio/video receiver with all major home theatre surround sound processing formats, plus Onkyo's Net-Tuneô distributed audio technology for the integration of high-quality audio with a home computer network. Other features include include 192 kHz/24-bit audio DACs, HDTV-capable component video switching, and Onkyo's Powered Zone 2 capability.Onkyo's Net-Tune uses a standard TCP/IP Ethernet connection to unite the receiver with MP3 and Windows Media Audio (WMA) files stored on a home PC, or to access Internet radio streams via a networked broadband Internet connection. This system also allows for up to 11 other Net-Tune clients to connect to the same network, all delivering simultaneous and independent access to music stored on a central PC. The receiver's on-screen display shows song title, artist, album, genre, and playlist information.The TX-NR801 is a full-featured home theatre receiver, with onboard processing for THX Surround EXô, DolbyÆ Digital EX, Dolby Pro LogicÆ II, DTS-ESÆ, DTS Neo:6Æ, and DTSÆ 96/24. High-quality 192 kHz/24-bit DACs are used for all channels except the back surrounds. For analog sources, Onkyo's Pure Audio function allows all digital processing to be completely bypassed.The TX-NR801 features HDTV-capable 50 MHz component video switching, and Y/C separation for composite-to-S-video conversion. A total of seven digital inputs, including one on the front panel, and two digital outputs are included, as well as full 7.1-channel analog pre-outs.
