Nordost To Launch New High-Definition Video Cable Line At 2004 CES

23-Dec-03

Nordost Corporation announces the launch of Silver Screen HD, a new range of high-performance video cables. Nordost will unveil and demonstrate the new cable line at the 2004 International CES. Silver Screen HD video cables offer improvements in picture quality due to the use of Nordost's proprietary Dual Micro Mono-Filamentô technology. This Nordost patent-pending design offers major advantages over conventional cable construction with a signal speed of over 90 percent of the speed of light. The Silver Screen HD cable range uses Dual Micro Mono-Filament technology to increase the signal speed and to give the cable a very wide bandwidth. According to Joe Reynolds, Product Development Director at Nordost, ""The new technology is derived from work we have done on developing very high-speed cable solutions for use in supercomputers. In order to have the propagation speed and bandwidth necessary for these applications, we needed to minimize the effect of the insulation material on the conductors."" To do this, two Teflon threads are first wrapped around each other and drawn in a helix around a highly polished silver plated conductor. Nordost then extrudes a Teflon tube around the conductor. This precision manufacturing technique means that 85 percent of the conductor surface is suspended in air. The use of Teflon, which has a very low dielectric constant, coupled with Nordost's Dual Micro Mono-Filament manufacturing technique, produces a cable with very low signal loss and very wide bandwidth. This bandwidth extends well above the upper range of video signals into the GHz range. ""The result,"" continued Reynolds, ""is a cable which has stunning picture quality, superb color information and a tremendous depth of field."" The new range consists of six cables: composite video, S-video, component video and RGB, as well as a SCART cable for the European market. Available and shipping now, the Silver Screen HD cables carry the following suggested retail prices: composite, $124.99 per meter (additional half-meter increments are $16); S-video, $259.99 per meter (additional half-meter increments are $32); component, $299.99 per meter (additional half-meter increments are $48); RGB, $499.99 per meter (additional half-meter increments are $64).
