Acoustic Sciences Corporation (ASC) Unveils The ASC-Powertrap, The Concept Model For The Worldís First Active Bass Trap

15-Jan-04

By combining sound cancellation technology with acoustic circuitry, the patent-pending ASC-PowerTrap answers the challenge for smaller, more powerful bass traps. The ASC-PowerTrap significantly improves the acoustics of any room, enhancing transient response and attenuating mode coupling which are the two most problematic aspects of low frequency playback. Aside from a base module that houses the sound cancellation speaker, microphone, and amplifier circuitry, the appearance of the ASC-PowerTrap is nearly identical to a TubeTrap, which is the industry standard in high performance acoustics among recording professionals and audiophiles around the world. Electronic circuitry inside the ASC-PowerTrap responds to the buildup of air pressure inside the trap, and controls the volume of air inside the cavity, to maintain nearly zero back pressure. This allows the smaller trap to operate at frequencies as low as 20 Hz. The process creates tightly controlled acoustic environments suitable for any listening or recording application. Like a TubeTrap, the treble diffuser in the ASC-PowerTrap can be rotated to dial in ambience levels of the room. The ASC-PowerTrap provides audio enthusiasts and professionals with full bandwidth control of the entire acoustic spectrum. Previously, controlling extremely low frequencies could only be done with large corner loading bass traps. Thanks to sound cancellation technology in the ASC-PowerTrap, better performance can be achieved with smaller units. ASC plans to begin full production in the first quarter of 2004, pending market interest. The MSRP of the 13î ASC-PowerTrap is currently estimated at around $750.
