KRGN-FM And WNRK-FM Tap Harris Corporation As Supplier Of Choice For New HD Radio Transmission Systems

18-Feb-04

Harris Corporation announced that KRGN-FM, Amarillo, Texas, and WNRK-FM, Norwalk, Ohio have selected Harris Broadcast Communications Division's HD Radio transmission systems and other broadcast equipment for their implementation of HD Radio digital broadcasting. KRGN has purchased Harris' Z4HDS FM digital and HT 25CD FM analog transmitters for its separate amplification installation, as well as an FM antenna, transmission line, Studio-to-Transmitter link (STL) system and studio equipment. WNRK, a repeater station for Kent State University's radio station WKSU-FM, has purchased a Harris Z8HDC FM digital transmitter, a DEXSTAR FM digital exciter, and a NeuStar codec processor, which not only ensures the highest-quality audio, but also can be configured for 5.1 surround sound or supplemental audio applications. WNRK is one of four repeater stations for WKSU and will be the first digital build-out in the network. Harris HD Radio transmission equipment provides FM-quality audio on AM stations and CD-quality sound on FM stations, eliminating the static, hiss, pops, and fades associated with today's analog radio reception. Digital radio technology will deliver exciting new wireless data services to the new digital receivers being released in the marketplace for automobiles and the home, such as station, song and artist identification, stock and news information, local traffic, and weather. In the near future, broadcasters will be able to offer 5.1 surround sound on FM, rich-media on request and radio broadcasts over cell phones and PDAs.
