Sony Broadens SA-CD Offerings With Dedicated Changer And Compatible DVD Dream Systems

Heralding the success of the SA-CD format, Sony announced a new five-disc SA-CD/CD changer, the SCD-CD595. Delivering high-quality multi-channel audio while utilizing a multi-channel management system, the SCD-CD595 is ideal for consumers who are looking to add to their existing component systems or replace a traditional CD-only transport. In addition, Sony introduced a new line of DVD Dream systems with SA-CD compatibility feature that provide convenient surround sound solution to home theater entertainment. The SA-CD format is continuing to gather momentum with 118 SA-CD compatible products on the worldwide market from 26 manufacturers. Additionally, as of mid-February, 1,084 SA-CD titles were available in the U.S., with approximately 75 percent being hybrid discs that are playable on SA-CD and traditional CD players. SA-CD is widely regarded as the highest quality audio source currently available and highlights the exciting benefits of multi-channel surround sound by reproducing the nuances and power of high resolution audio. ìThere are many people who take their music very seriously and have high expectations when it comes to home entertainment,î said Tim Baxter, Senior Vice President for Sony Electronics' Home Products Division. ìDevices such as the SCD-CD595 allow consumers to indulge in their audio/video enjoyment with its multi-channel capabilities.î The new SA-CD changer is equipped with advanced audio features such as Speaker Delay Time Adjustment, which provides ideal sound stage even in less than perfect speaker set-up environment; Multichannel Audio Output and an advanced Multichannel Management system, which adjusts bass frequencies to match speakers. Additional features include a Super Audio D/A Converter for both CD and SA-CD, Digital Optical Output for CD, and 5.1 channel analog RCA outputs. Housed in a black chassis, the SCD-CD595 five-disc changer will be available in July 2004 for about $150. Sony DVD Dream Systems As home theater-in-a-box packages become a standard home entertainment solution, Sony is introducing its new line of DVD Dream systems. The new five-slot loading progressive scan models incorporate a host of advancements that deliver stunning performance, convenience and sleek style. This year's models include: DAV-FR9 - Featuring S-Master digital amplifier, a Digital Direct Twin Drive Subwoofer, DTS, Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS-ES decoders for high quality surround sound, an intuitive graphic user interface (GUI) for simple navigation, and a easy to use on-screen display (OSD) menu set-up. In addition, the model's WEGA television Direct Simple Macro allows for easy integration with many of Sony's HDTV displays, for a complete WEGA Theatre system experience. The DAV-FR9 has 800 watts of total system power with four floor standing tower speakers, along with a slim-line center speaker. It will be available in June 2004 for about $1,000. DAV-FR8 - Equipped with many of the advanced features of the DAV-FR9, this home theater system brings home excellent surround sound experience. The FR8 also utilizes a Digital Direct Twin Drive Subwoofer with total 800 watts of system power, two front floor standing speakers with two satellite rear speakers and a Nano-Fine tweeter for SA-CD sound enhancement. It will be available in June 2004 for about $800. DAV-FR1 - This entry-level system includes most of the features found in the FR8 and FR9, but without the floor standing speakers. It packs plenty of punch with 750 watts of total system power in its sleek five satellite speaker system package. Available in June 2004, the DAV-FR1 will sell for about $500. DAV-FR10W - Announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, the DAV-FR10W system incorporates the latest in wireless technology. The five-disc DVD/CD/SA-CD changer is equipped with Sony's new DIAT (Digital Infrared Audio Transmission System) technology, enabling wireless rear speakers. This sophisticated technology transfers digital audio signals without compression or compromise to sound quality. The new model incorporates two S-Master digital amplifiers and two new Dual Digital Power subwoofers to produce powerful bass and 800 watts of total system power for an unforgettable surround sound experience. It also offers Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS-ES decoder and MP3file playback. The wireless DVD Dream system will be available this September 2004 for about $1,000.
