Tartan Video Adds DTS Digital Surround for All DVD Releases -- 40 Titles Slated for 2004; DTS Is An Absolute Must, Not Just An Option

1-Mar-04

ìWe Now Realize That the Inclusion of 5.1 DTS Digital Surround Is No Longer an Option, but an Absolute Must.î stated Alan Partington, Managing Director of Tartan Video. Tartan Video has commenced its strategy to add DTS Digital Surround as a core component of its DVD releases. With its wide catalogue of global and classic cinema, they plan to release more than 40 DVD titles with DTS during 2004. To date, five Region 2 DVD-Video titles have been released: ìDark Waterî (Hideo Nakata, 2003), ìSecretaryî (Steven Shainberg, 2003, starring James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal), ìBelleville Rendezvousî (Sylvain Chomet, 2003), ìA Snake of Juneî (Shinya Tsukamoto, 2003), and ìRespiroî (Emanuele Crialese, 2003). The release of ìSecretaryî in DTS was a special project that resulted in the Region 2 version being the only version globally to carry DTS. Tartan recognizes that consumers find DTS an attractive option and look for DTS titles, therefore the DTS logo is made very clearly visible on the front, back and spine of all of their DVD releases. Alan Partington, Managing Director at Tartan Video, enthuses, ìAs a well-established, market-leading video label, our aim is to deliver DVD productions of the highest possible quality to our customers. Not only do we have a catalogue filled with some of the greatest classic and contemporary foreign and English language titles, but we also pay attention to the demands of the consumer. As a result, we have been including 5.1 audio tracks on our discs for some time now. We are extremely pleased to be working closely with DTS, and to be releasing DVDs that contain such high-quality 5.1 surround mixes as the DTS format delivers.î With the recent successes of their early DTS titles, ìSecretaryî and the Oscar nominated ìBelleville Rendezvous,î firmly under their belt, Tartan Video plans to continue releasing titles with DTS. Their 2004 schedule features a host of great titles from a range of genres and countries. At a rate of four to five titles per month, it is estimated that at least 40 releases this year will feature DTS surround sound. Amongst these will be a re-mastered four-disc box set edition of the highly successful Asia Extreme ìRingî Trilogy, the gritty ìWonderlandî (starring Val Kilmer), and the stylish gambling thriller ìThe Coolerî (with William H. Macy and Alec Baldwin), to name only a few. DTS' Gerben Van Duyl, Director Of Business Development For Content, comments, ìDTS Europe is very pleased that Tartan Video is now releasing its 5.1 DVD titles with DTS. Tartan is known for its quality productions and they recognize the DTS format as the premium option for surround sound. The inclusion of DTS on their titles will help Tartan market their titles to consumers who are looking for a high-quality DVD home entertainment experience.î For more information, please visit www.dtsonline.com.
