The video game industry's first THX Certified Games received six awards at the 7th annual Interactive Achievement Awards held in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 4, 2004 by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. The four eligible THX Certified Game titles, which were published by Electronic Arts, were nominated in 11 categories. The winners included Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Medal of Honor: Rising Sun for Achievements in Sound Design and Original Music Composition, respectively. ìThis recognition is testament to EA's outstanding achievements in sound and visual creation,î said Mark Tuffy, director of advanced technology at THX Ltd. ""We are thrilled to have supported such a talented group of artists and developers through the launch of the THX Certified Games program, and we look forward to building on the program's success to further optimize the video game sound and picture experience."" The THX Certified Games program, launched with EA in September 2003, provides game publishers with a quality assurance process for game sound and visual image development. The program defines standards for how audio and video production facilities should be designed and maintained, with the goal of creating consistent technical environments at facilities where game content is produced. Adhering to the THX standards enables sound designers and visual artists to confidently pass content between one another, as well as to disparate development locations, knowing that the artistic detail will be maintained throughout game development.
