Gefen Expands Computer Components/Touchpanels For Remote Operation

Individual Components And Complete Computer Systems Extend With Gefen's Ex-Tend-It Professional Series

23-Mar-04

At NSCA, Gefen demonstrated computer component extension solutions designed to enable short- and long-distance operation of computer systems, necessary when computers are located in a distant control room and connected through in-the-wall or tunnel cabling. The products use a sender and receiver methodology that extends components hundreds of feet from the computer using CAT5 or fiber optics cabling. ìMaintaining silence in the workplace is essential for many professionals,î said Hagai Gefen, President. ìGefen extenders have long enabled studio professionals to keep their computer equipment isolated in order to avoid computer noises when editing with the system's KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) peripherals.î Gefen's new extenders provide solutions for following technologies: 1394 IEEE FireWire (FireWire Extender) for hard drives, cameras and similar video components; USB (USB-500) for keyboards, mice, cameras and printers; VGA (VGA Extender) for analog monitors and projectors; RS-232 (RS232 Extender) for wacom tablets and touch screens; and audio (Audio Extender) for speakers and microphones. Upgraded CAT5 extension systems from Gefen are single units that are equipped with multiple interfaces to enable complete workstations to be extended through one system. Several new models extend single, dual and triple monitors plus keyboard/mice, speakers, cameras, printers, scanners and similar peripherals. The systems use CAT5 or fiber optics cables to connect components, depending on the nature of the transmission technology. A supply of fiber optics, CAT5, audio, USB and VGA cabling is available through Gefen in assorted lengths to accompany the extension solutions.
