At NAB 2004, BBC Technology, a provider of product and services to media-driven organizations, today announced the release of version 1.0 of the Colledia AAF Plug-in for Windows Media 9 Series (WM9S). Furthermore, the AAF Plug-in for WM9S, with support for the new AAF Edit Protocol, will be available in late summer. The AAF Plug-in is a component of BBC Technology's production workflow software, Colledia Workflow. This ìenabling technologyî will empower news producers, editors, and journalists to access, utilize, and deliver high quality media and metadata to the desktop, and deliver a true enterprise-scale solution for supporting the full broad-cast media lifecycle. The AAF Plug-in for WM9S further marginalizes tape-based production by freeing content creators from the confines and expense associated with editing room and dedicated hardware systems. ""Broadcast executives realize the value that enterprise-scale solutions for production can add to the bottom line,"" said Mitchell Linden, Senior Vice President, North America, and BBC Technology. ""Commodity network infrastructure and common PC workstations can deliver today what only ex-pensive proprietary systems could just a couple of years ago. Colledia extends the reach of participation across the media enter-prise. Colledia Workflow will become the Microsoft 'Outlook' for broadcast production."" WM9S delivers video quality-per-bit to the desktop. Bringing together AAF Edit Protocol metadata support with WM9S enables seamless interoperability with standards-based editing infrastructures in the collaborative broadcast news environment. ""We are working with BBC Technology to create and deploy more powerful and cost effective tools, solutions and services for broadcasters,"" said Jason Reindorp, Group Manager, Windows Digital Media Division, Microsoft Corp. ""BBC Technology's AAF plug-in extends the use of WM9S across large scale broadcast production so that any PC desktop user can access AAF content. Microsoft and BBC Technology share a commitment to deliver open, multi-vendor solutions. We designed WM9S to be a rich platform to help fuel unique and important innovations,"" added Reindorp. ""Through our respective software innovations we are creating powerful tools that enable distribution of HD content and support all phases of broadcast production."" ""Metadata-driven broadcast production is revolutionizing the industry,"" explained Michael Koetter, Vice-President of Technology, North America, and BBC Technology. ""We see the future of our collaboration with Microsoft continuing to bring our combined strengths and respective technical expertise to improve collaborative workflows and create new opportunities in enterprise broadcast connectivity.""
