The opening night panel discussion will be moderated by Academy Award nominated visual effects artist/filmmaker Harrison Ellenshaw, and will include such luminaries from the film as director Steven Lisberger, visual effects supervisor Richard Taylor (ìThe Lord of the Ringsî trilogy), and production designer/futurist Syd Mead. As part of the opening night activities, a live ìTron 2.0 Tournamentî will be played on the big movie screen. Original costumes from the film, along with posters, props and other memorabilia will also be on display. Commenting on the announcement, Breier said, ìWe are thrilled to be bringing ëTroní back to the El Capitan for the first time in five years. This is a rare opportunity for fans of the film to see a 70 mm Dolby Stereo print projected on the big screen at Hollywoodís premiere movie palace. Weíve got a great opening night panel to kick off this engagement in style, and lots of exciting displays, games and surprises for everyone throughout the 10-day run. Whether youíve seen the film dozens of times or are just discovering it for the first time, the El Capitan is the place to be for ten days in May.î ìTronî broke new ground for the art of computer generated-imagery when it was first released in 1982. Although the technique had previously been used in ìStar Warsî and ìWest World,î ìTronî was the first film to create a three-dimensional world using this medium. A futuristic adventure set in cyberspace, the film follows the exploits of a young computer genius who gets blasted into an electronic world, where computer programs are the alter egos of the programmers who created them. Sentenced to die on the video game grid, he teams up with Tron (an electronic security program) to escape and destroy the Master Control Program and return to the ìrealî world. Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, David Warner, Cindy Morgan, and Barnard Hughes star. The film was directed by Steven Lisberger and produced by Donald Kushner.
