The Kodak Emerging Filmmaker Showcase will have two screenings at the 2004 Cannes International Film Festival this year. The Showcase is comprised of 26 award-winning student projects. On May 16, 2004, Kodak is participating in the Short Film Corner of the MarchÈ du Film, where Kodak-sponsored films at the festival will be presented and followed by a reception. On May 18, 2004 the seventh edition of the Kodak Emerging Filmmaker Showcase will be shown at the Riviera 8 Theatre at 6 p.m. followed by a reception at the American Pavilion. The Kodak Emerging Filmmaker Showcase is sponsored by the Kodak Student Filmmaker Program. ""This initiative is designed to help young filmmakers bridge the gap between the completion of their formal education and the realization of their dreams,"" says John Mason, Director of Kodak's Student Filmmaker Program. ""Many previous participants have told us that the Showcase boosted their careers in tangible and intangible ways. They made important professional contacts at critical junctures in their careers, and gained valuable insights into how the industry works. The Showcase also provides an opportunity for talent scouts to meet this new generation of filmmakers and get a first-hand look at their work."" The student filmmakers participating in the Showcase have won first place in prestigious student film festivals/competitions in the United States, including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Student Academy Awards, Academy of Television Arts and Sciences College Television Awards, Directors Guild of America Student Film Awards, NextFrame, The Short List, Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival, American Society of Cinematographers Heritage Award, International Documentary Association David L. Wolper Student Award, Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films, New York University International Student Film Festival, Eastman Scholarship Award, CINE Award of Excellence, and The Kodak Filmschool Competition. Many of the featured student films were produced with the aid of Kodak product grants. This year, Kodak is also providing a platform for introducing these new talents by becoming an official partner of the Short Film Corner. ""The Short Film Corner provides emerging and student filmmakers with an opportunity to showcase their talent at an important, global festival,"" says Mason. ""This is part of a broad commitment we have made to the future of this important, international art form. This amazing display of talent in this showcase bodes well for the future of our industry."" The Short Film Corner is located in the Palais des Festivals. They will provide published information on all the programs' films, as well as Internet access to the digitized films from interactive kiosks.
