Home Entertainment Award Nominations Announced By The Video Software Dealers Association

ìThe Adventures Of Indiana Jonesî Box Set And ìThe Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towersî Lead The Way With Multiple Nominations

26-May-04

ìThe Adventures Of Indiana Jonesî box set and ìThe Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towersî tied to lead the field by earning four Home Entertainment Award nominations apiece, Bo Andersen, President of the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA), announced today. Other titles leading the list of nominations, with three nominations each, are ìFinding Nemo,î ìT2 - Extreme DVD,î the direct-to-video release ìBarbie Of Swan Lake,î and the videogame ìTony Hawk's Underground.î The annual Home Entertainment Awards, presented by VSDA, recognize outstanding achievement in Home Video. ìMore people view movies on DVD and VHS than in the theaters, on pay-per-view cable and satellite television, and on video-on-demand. These awards recognize excellence in entertainment the way most people enjoy it -- on home video,î said Andersen. A total of 126 nominations were submitted for awards in 26 categories, an increase over the 105 nominations for 21 categories in last year's Home Entertainment Awards. The new categories for this year are Documentary Title of the Year, Music DVD of the Year, Television Series on DVD of the Year, Television Mini-Series on DVD of the Year, Archival Television Series on DVD of the Year, and Archival Television Mini-Series on DVD of the Year. ìIt's important that we have categories that reflect the market. There is such an expansion of product available on home video ranging from current and archival television programming, to music DVDs, top the increased popularity of documentaries, that the committee felt it was important to add these new categories in recognition of all these great titles,î said Nominating Committee Chairwoman Phyllis Hicks, of Home Entertainment Group. This year's award categories and nominees were determined by VSDA's Home Entertainment Awards Nominating Committee, which is comprised of retailers, distributors, and journalists. In developing the list of nominees, the committee takes into consideration the rental and sell-through success of the title and the strength of the marketing campaign launched by the distributors of the video, both to consumers and to retailers. Ballots sent to all VSDA regular members will determine the award winners. The winners of the Home Entertainment Awards will be announced on July 14th at VSDA's Home Entertainment 2004 at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
