Velodyne Acoustics Inc. introduces the Digital Power Slot (DPS) Series subwoofers, an affordable line of subwoofers using DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology to digitally control all functions of the subwoofer. The DPS series consists of the DPS-10, with a 10-inch forward firing driver (8.2-inch piston diameter) and 375 watts dynamic power, and the DPS-12, with a 12-inch forward firing driver (9.9-inch piston diameter) and 400 watts dynamic power. The DPS Series offers digital control of crossovers, equalization, dynamic compression, volume, phase, protection circuits and four selectable presets. Due to the accuracy of digital tuning, DPS subwoofers improve performance with greater output and impact, flatter frequency response and greater bass extension. ìNever before has a DSP-controlled subwoofer been available in this price range,î said Bruce Hall, president of Velodyne. ìBy using DSP, our DPS Series subwoofers audibly outperform previous analog designs with like-sized amps and drivers. We provide our customers with more control, adaptability and flexibility with different kinds of source material. Previously, we only offered this functionality with our flagship Digital Drive subwoofers.î Located on the top front of the DPS subwoofer is a unique touch-panel control where many functions are performed and customized with a single touch of a button. The panel features a volume control, and four presets for movies, R&B-rock, jazz-classical and games. Each preset is tailored to deliver an optimized performance for the source material, whether it is a movieís special effect or a delicate jazz selection. The touch-panel control also features a night mode feature that limits the maximum output of the subwoofer for late night listening. The DPS Series subwoofers will be available for audition and purchase at Velodyneís authorized dealer network July 1, 2004. The suggested retail pricing of the DPS Series ranges from $499 to $599.For more information visit www.velodyne.com.
