HDFEST World Tour Hits L.A. With HD Screenings, Panels, And More

HDFESTís 2004 Los Angeles event marks the second festival on the HDFEST 2004 World Tour which is taking place this year in six cities: Sydney, Los Angeles, London, New York, Miami, and Finland. The Los Angeles festival will be taking place at the Sony Culver Studios Ince Theatre July 13, 2004 and the Los Angeles Film School July 14 and 15, 2004. The event and will screen a variety of high-definition cinema, exhibit HD equipment and conduct panel discussions on subjects related to HD filmmaking. HDFESTís Los Angeles event will showcase films created using high-definition technology; all screenings will also be in HD format. Admission is free to attend and open to industry professionals as well as the general public with advance pre-registration. HDFEST was created in 2000 as a film festival exclusively focused on high-definition technology. Last year's HDFEST Los Angeles event broke all digital cinema records by screening the largest ever amount of high-def cinema under one roof. HDFestís 2004 World Tour taking place in six cities will be presenting more HD cinema and HD panels then last year. Panel discussions featuring industry experts are also an important part of HDFEST events. Last month's Sydney, Australia event had ""standing room only"" attendance for the HDFEST panel discussions at the Fox Studios Australia. In Los Angeles, the three panel discussions to be presented at the Sony Ince Theatre July 13th include ""High-Definition Filmmaking, the DP's Perspective,"" ""Independent Filmmaking in HD,"" and ""New Visual Frontiers and Digital Solutions."" The festival in Los Angeles will also feature more question and answer sessions with HDFEST filmmakers this year, as well as a special visual presentation by discreet on July 15, 2004 at 7:30pm. The following films are among the HDFEST 2004 selections to be presented at HDFEST in Los Angeles: LUMINAL (HDFEST Screening July 15th, 9:30pm): This UK/France sci-fi feature ""Luminal"" which recently won the award for Best Feature at the Rome International Film Festival. ""Luminal"" is set in a futuristic Paris and is based on a best-selling novel by Isabella Santacroce; Directed by Andrea Vechiato. REX STEELE: NAZI SMASHER (HDFEST Screening July 15th, 6pm): This Student Academy Award winning animation follows Rex Steele, ""Nazi smasher extraordinaire."" The film is now eligible for consideration in the short animation category for next year's Academy Awards; Directed by Alexander Woo. SOMEWHERE (HDFEST Screening July 14th, 6pm): The first American High-Definition film to shoot entirely on location in Thailand and Malaysia. ""This feature tells the story of Ben Prowse and Lauri Rain, two twenty something travelers who realize the first ten years of their adult life have been burdened by the high speed demands of college, jobs and relationships;"" Directed by Thomas Whelan. 30 MILES (HDFEST Screening July 14th, 9:30pm): 30 Miles follows two men of different race and background on a dramatic pressure-cooker trip. This film was the first 24p HD feature to be shot with the P+S Technik Pro-35mm Adapter; Directed by Ryan Harper. THE MEXICAN DREAM (HDFEST Screening July 15th, 8pm): Nominated for a 2004 Student Academy Award. A Hollywood star wannabe dresses up as a woman and decides to cross the border illegally; Directed by Gustavo Hernandez Perez.
