Silicon Image Opens HDMI Authorized Testing Center

12-Jul-04

Silicon Image, a leader in high-bandwidth semiconductor and system solutions for mass markets, announced the opening of its Authorized Testing Center (ATC) to provide test services for the High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). Located at the company?s Sunnyvale, California headquarters, the facility is now available for preliminary testing of products submitted by HDMI Adopters. Following completion of the HDMI v1.0 Compliance Test Specification (see above), the center will provide full testing against the specification. As mandated by the HDMI Adopter?s Agreement and HDMI Compliance Test Specification, Silicon Imageís ATC tests for compliance with the HDMI specification to promote compatibility among HDMI devices. A product must pass testing at an ATC before it can bear the HDMI logo or claim conformance to the HDMI Specification. John LeMoncheck, Silicon Image?s Vice President of Consumer Electronics Products, stated, ìHDMI compliance testing provides a real benefit to manufacturers and consumers alike. Manufacturers benefit because they know their products have passed a rigorous set of tests designed to assist them in verifying HDMI product compliance.î ìConsumers benefit because HDMI compliance testing promotes interoperability and helps to assure that the HDMI products in their entertainment system will work together,î added Brett Gaines, President of HDMI Licensing, LLC. ìSilicon Image?s reputation for standards compliance and its experience as HDMI core technology provider, make them an ideal provider of HDMI compliance testing services.î Myra Moore, President of Digital Tech Consulting, stated, ìThe proliferation of interface standards is imperative for the success of the next generation of high-definition televisions and the devices consumers will want to connect to those HDTVs. Silicon Imageís HDMI program is a step toward delivering those standards,î said Moore. ìThe sooner consumers are offered high-quality HDTV products that they feel confident won?t be obsolete in the near future, the faster the HDTV market will take off.î According to the company, Silicon Imageís ATC is equipped to perform all of the testing outlined in the HDMI v 0.9 Compliance Test Specification (announced at the same time), including Transition Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS), electrical and physical layer, protocol, audio, video, and EDID testing. The ATC is also capable of performing HDMI cable compliance testing. Typical test durations range from seven to 14 days, depending on product complexity and type. All products submitted to Silicon Image?s ATC are tested against the specificationís requirements, after which test results are sent to both the manufacturer and HDMI Licensing, LLC.
