Pony Canyon Inc. announced that it is developing video software in the HD DVD format in readiness for the commercial release of HD DVD hardware within the next year. The company will release its own original visual content in the new format, the next generation optical disc format that is approved by the DVD Forum. With its entry into HD DVD, Pony Canyon continues a long tradition of launching package video software for consumer market that dates back as far as the days of open reel tape. The company has greeted each new generation of innovation in movie software storage and delivery with successful titles, on media as diverse as three-quarter inch U-matic video tape, Beta and VHS video cassette tapes, laser discs and, most recently DVD. Pony Canyon has made a proud contribution to the dissemination and evolution of video technology, from the neutral perspective of a software maker working to encourage growth in the packaged video software market. Pony Canyon initially plans to release a series of titles in the HD DVD format, as detailed below: Moonlight Jellyfish A Pony Canyon original high-definition digital movie recorded in the Hi-Vision format. A drama directed by Kosuke Tsurumi, the film stars Tatsuya Fujiwara, Aya Okamoto and Ryo Kimura. It will go on theatrical release in Japan on August 7. virtual trip THE MOVIE FASCINATING NATURE An environmental film of artistic scenery around the world that makes expressive use of aerial photography and long-duration shooting accompanied only with natural sound and appropriate music. The movie is directed by German director Gogol Lobmayr. It features stunning views drawn from 25 different locations, including the African savanna, Monument Valley and Yellowstone National Park, the Iguassu Falls, the Canadian Arctic, Cappadocia, Patagonia, Namibian Desert, and Antarctica. It uses high-definition D5 master in high-definition telecine-converted from the original 35mm-film. virtual trip HD Series ""virtual trip"" is a Pony Canyon's original label of environmental film that brings to life the beautiful and unique scenery around the world. The films have been in preparation since 2002, filmed with a HD-CAM (High Definition Camera) in anticipation of the emergence of high-definition discs. Titles in virtual trip are currently available in DVD, but HD DVD will finally offer the higher picture and sound quality required for more authentic reproduction of the recorded images.
