For many years Naim Audio source components have been considered among the best in the world; the NAT01 tuner and the CDS3 Compact Disc player are prime examples. Therefore the first video source component from Naim really had to be something really special. The upgradeable modular DVD5 includes DVI (HDCP) digital video and hi-performance progressive analogue video outputs. The audio decoder is not only capable of true CD quality playback but full 192kHz/24bit DVD Audio. Built to Naimís high standards, it shares the 5 seriesí anti-resonance casework, includes 8 printed circuit boards for electrical and mechanical isolation. The fully linear power supply with 20 independently regulated power supplies powered from six isolated secondary windings on the toroidal transformer provides an excellent electrical environment for the hi-performance circuits. The Naim DVD5 will be available from Naim retailers at the end of October 2004. The optional six channel DVD Audio board will be available at the same time. The Naim design includes hi-performance technologies such as Faroudja DCDi de-interlacing technology and supports DVI (with HDCP) for outstanding digital video performance. HDMI compatible digital displays may be used via an adapter cable. Analogue video is also supported including composite, s-video, YPbPr interlaced, RGB interlaced and YPbPr progressive. For non-macrovision encoded discs RGB progressive and RGBHV are also available. Extensive Naim-written set-up menus allow fine-tuning of the video outputs and custom set-up of the players features. The menus also allow access to video test screens to optimise video linearity and levels. For the ultimate large screen performance a scaler upgrade card will be available later offering custom resolutions up to an incredible 1080p. The scaler also boasts an external input for scaling of external video sources such as a digital set-top box. CD performance is an issue with DVD players; most do not deliver. To fit into Naimís hierarchy, the DVD5 must outperform the new Naim CD5i when playing music CDs. To achieve this, the audio decoding board is physically separated from all other DVD circuit boards. To further isolate the audio board, the video processors and outputs can be powered down during CD playback. The digital audio data is then re-clocked before entering state-of-the-art 24bit/192kHz DACs, as used in the Naim CDS3 CD player. The DVD5 can play stereo DVD-Audio at its maximum sample rate. With the optional multi-channel board the DVD5 can also playback DVD-Audio in surround sound. In addition to its standard-setting video and audio performance the DVD5 brings a Naim system into the high-resolution multi-channel audio world. The DVD5 firmware is CD-ROM upgradeable in the inevitable event of future changes and upgrades. RS232 and RC5 ports allow advanced control in multi-room or custom-install systems. When used with the Naim AV2 multi-channel processor / preamp, the DVD5 provides full on screen display for the AV2 including OSD set-up. The DVD5 also includes a new AV system remote also capable of controlling Naim audio systems. The Naim DVD5 establishes a new reference level for DVD video quality combined with truly flexible, upgradeable and standard-setting musical performance.Media Supported:--DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, CD Audio (CD-DA), CD-RW. and CD-RVideo Outputs:--Digital Visual Interface (DVI) with HDCP copy protection--RGB/RGBHV (for non-macrovision encoded discs): via BNC, 75 Ohm--YPbPr: via BNCs, 75 Ohm--RGB interlaced (for non-macrovision encoded discs) via SCART, 75 Ohm--YPbPr interlaced: via SCART, 75 Ohm--S-video: via 4 pin DIN, 75 Ohm--Composite: via SCART, 75Ohm--Ability to switch off un-used video outputs for zero video x-talk--Video features:--Faroudja DCDi de-interlacing technology--Automatic PAL or NTSC playback and conversion--Black-level setup for NTSC (0IRE or 7.5IRE)--Up to five different format simultaneous video outputs-- 1.78:1 (16:9) and 1.33:1 (4:3) aspect ratio support--Video zoom--Picture adjustment including saturation, contrast and position -60x -30x, -16x, -8x, -4x, -2x, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 30x, 60x speeds--Full easy to navigate OSD with built in test screens for display calibration--Scaler upgrade card with custom resolutions including 720p and 1080p--Full +/- time delay lip syncAudio Outputs:--Two digital coax and two digital optical.--2 Volt RMS analogue stereo from 24bit, 192kHz re-clocked DACs: via 5 pin--DIN and stereo phono sockets--Up to 7.1 channel with multi-channel audio board fitted, 24bit 96kHz: via DINsocketsCommunications:--Full integration with Naim AV2 processor including AV2 OSD--RS232 control for custom install and home automation.Dimensions:--70mm x 432mm x 301mmPower:--Fully Linear, 20 independently regulated supplies with advanced ground system.--100 - 120VAC or 220 - 240VAC 50/60Hz, 50WFor more information, please visit www.naim-audio.com.
