7-Dec-04

The fifth annual fall Electronic House Expo (EHX) concluded in Long Beach, California on November 18, with a record attendance of 7,480, up thirty percent from 2003. The conference and tradeshow provided an unparalleled venue for custom electronics pros to network, learn and socialize with exhibitors, media, and presenters. The event's highlights included On-Q Home's opening keynote, eBay's ""Buying and Selling Online"" keynote, the announcement of the 2004 Distributed Audio Awards and a plethora of educational seminars, workshops and product training classes. On Tuesday, November 16, the event opened with a keynote discussing the opportunities for Lighting Control and Fixtures to boost profits and installations in 2005. The program, led by CE Pro editor, Jason Knott, featured a panel of installers as well as a representative from On-Q Home and provided insightful concepts for those in attendance. The ever-growing EHX tradeshow floor, which was open November 16-18, featured 297 exhibiting companies in over 135,000 gross square feet of exhibit space. Among the show's exhibitors were AutoPatch, Channel Plus, Fluke Networks, M&S Systems, Prosite Business Solutions, Russound, Smarthome, Stewart Filmscreen, Superna, and Vantage Controls. First-time EHX exhibitor and gold sponsor, Ingram Micro debuted a number of new consumer electronics and information technology vendors and announced the arrival of their high quality product distribution services in the custom electronics market space. eBay sponsored a discussion on ""Buying and Selling Online"" on Wednesday, November 17. Also moderated by Knott, the discussion was an innovative look at the opportunities existing for manufacturers and integrators to connect via eBay's online program. The EHX Unplugged party on Tuesday, November 16 was the venue for the announcement of the 2004 Distributed Audio Awards. Seventeen products were recognized for their innovations, including Meda System's Bravoô Digital Media Server, which was singled out as the best overall Distributed Audio Product for 2004. The EHX conference program featured fifty seminars, eight boot camps and over one hundred manufacturer training classes that were attended by more than five hundred attendees. These programs featured in-depth training and education to a wide range of installation professionals. Among the best-attended conference programs were the TechHome Basic Training, Home Theater Design & Installation Boot Camp, as well as seminars covering builder relations, IP technology and A/V installations. ""EHX continues to provide a unique, valuable and growing opportunity for suppliers and channel companies in the custom electronics industry,"" said John Galante, Vice President of EH Events & Education. ""Because of its rapid growth and welcoming approach, EHX is able to reflect important trends in custom electronics. Trends like the arrival of IT suppliers and VARs as players in the space, the broadening appeal of high performance audio and video components, the opportunity for greater engagement with electrical products and lighting, and the emerging Tech-Style trend that makes furniture, accessories and decor products a part of the custom installation mix. EHX has also become an increasingly important business-creating event, with more and more transactions and agreements struck on the show floor or as a result of contacts and interaction at the event."" The next EHX will take place February 22 - 26 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. For more information, visit http://www.ehxweb.com
