Educational Brochure Provides Facts about HDTV Reception, Equipment and Programming

22-Dec-04

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and Starz Entertainment Group LLC (SEG), home of the pay TV movie channels STARZ! and Encore, today announced they will unveil a new brochure about high-definition television (HDTV) at the 2005 International CES, the world's largest annual technology tradeshow. The 2005 International CES will be held January 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The CEA-Starz Entertainment Group brochure is designed to help educate consumers on how they can best maximize their high-definition experiences. HDTV equipment manufacturers at the International CES will receive free copies of the brochure and CEA will make the brochure available to all International CES attendees through literature bins and other distribution vehicles on the show floor. All may access and download the brochure beginning January 5, 2005 on CEA and SEG's websites, www.ce.org/hdtv and www.starz.com, respectively. ""CEA is committed to educating consumers about the HDTV transition and we're delighted to work with Starz Entertainment Group on this latest endeavor,"" said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. ""The fact that manufacturers and programmers are collaborating on consumer education initiatives demonstrates how far along we are in the analog-to-digital television transition. We're in the final stretch and tools like this brochure will catapult us to the finish line."" ""The brochure's purpose is important and straight-forward - to highlight the easy, yet requisite steps that consumers must take in order to receive HDTV signals from their cable or satellite providers,"" said Starz Entertainment Group Executive Vice President, Marketing Jerry Maglio. ""Additionally, it highlights the wide range of HDTV programming available, including uncut, commercial-free movies in Hi-Def on STARZ! HD including The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Peter Pan, and 13 Going on 30."" CEA consumer research shows that as more consumers become familiar with HDTV terminology, they have questions about what is needed to enjoy HDTV programming and how to bring the HDTV experience into their own home. CEA and Starz Entertainment Group hope that educational and promotional endeavors, such as the new brochure, will assist consumers in learning about the technology, delivery options and available programming. STARZ! HD, transmitted in wide-screen 16x9 1080i with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, is the Hi-Def version of the flagship STARZ! service, showcasing a mix of recent Hollywood hits and other popular films.
