Sharp Expands Offering Of Widescreen Liquid Crystal HDTV Monitors

6-Apr-05

In response to growing consumer demand for high-definition, flat-screen televisions, Sharp introduced a new line of Sharp-branded 16:9 HD-capable Liquid Crystal Display televisions. The new HDTV monitors offer many of the features found in Sharp's Emmy? award-winning AQUOS TVs at more moderate price points. ""With the growing popularity and accessibility of high-definition programming and the trend of placing flat-screen televisions throughout the home, consumer demand for HD televisions is at an all-time high,"" said Vaishali Nayak, Product Marketing Manager, LCD and CRT TV, Consumer Electronics Group, Sharp Electronics Corporation. ""Sharp is responding to this demand by offering HD-capable widescreen LCD televisions with exciting capabilities at more mainstream price points. We'd like to make it possible for all consumers to be able to enjoy the benefits of our LCD displays."" Expanding the existing Sharp-branded line of 4:3 LC-TVs, the new widescreen sets, models LD-26SH1U and LD-23SH1U, feature a built-in tuner to capture the latest high-definition programming when combined with an HDTV tuner. These units offer 170-degree viewing angles, enabling consumers to watch TV clearly from anywhere in the room, as well as high contrast for blacker blacks, and high brightness with clear, vivid pictures offering exceptional color clarity. These features, combined with the TV's XGA resolution of 1366 x 768, ensure that television shows and DVD movies will be vibrant and clear. The LD-26SH1U also uses Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View (ASV) panel with ""black TFT"" low-reflection coating so it can be placed anywhere in the home, even near windows, doors or other ambient light sources, and still display a superior picture. This unit also includes Quick Shoot video technology, a feature propriety to Sharp's AQUOS televisions which optimizes response time on fast-moving images for an uninterrupted picture and razor-sharp edges on images. Both new Sharp-branded widescreen LCD televisions have a PC input that allows the set to double as a PC monitor without sacrificing picture quality, making it the center of the networked home. With split-screen functionality, the user can watch TV while simultaneously working on the computer. A picture-in-picture feature takes this one step further by allowing the TV image to be seen in a box on top of the PC image so the user can access both applications at once. The entire Sharp-branded LCD TV line offers multiple video signal inputs, V-Chip and Dolby speaker technology for crisp sound. The LD-26SH1U is available now for a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $1,699.99 and the LD-23SH1U is available now for an MSRP of $1,499.99.
