JVC Company of America announced that it has begun shipping second generation models of its HD-ILA line of HDTV rear-projection microdisplays. 720p versions of the HDTVs are immediately available in 61- and 70-inch screen sizes with 52- and 56-inch models becoming available by mid-summer. All of JVCís HD-ILA rear projection TVs use the companyís three-chip D-ILA (Direct-drive Image Light Amplifier) technology that was originally developed for use in its high performance professional video projectors. ěJVCís latest line of rear-projection HD-ILA HDTVs offer pristine image quality that is unmatched by competing technologies,î said Michael Holmes, Vice President of JVC Company of Americaís Consumer Display Division. ěJVCís HD-ILA TVs are based on LCoS technology that offers premium picture quality and the ultimate viewing experience from any source, including DVDs, as well as HDTV and standard broadcast programming.î All 720p sets use the same three-chip D-ILA design based on LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon) technology, which has the ability to continuously reproduce a flicker- and burn-free picture. In addition, an invisible pixel structure ensures color smoothness while a true analog grey scale provides deep, rich blacks. The HD-61Z886 (61 inches) and the HD-70G886 (70 inches) boast a slim profile and a sleek, silver cabinet. The 61-inch set is also available in black as the HD-61Z786. Both are ATSC tuner/CableCARDô-compatible to eliminate the need for a separate set-top box, feature PC inputs, and dual IEEE 1394 inputs for use with a camcorder or other media device. The HD-70G886 adds a memory card slot for convenient direct playback of still images and video from the full array of flash memory cards. JVCís 720p HD-ILA sets feature the companyís fourth generation Digital Image Scaling Technology (D.I.S.T.) and GENESSA, a 32-bit CPU dedicated to controlling picture refinement. JVCís D.I.S.T. upconverts any video source, such as a DVD, to the setís highest possible resolution ń 720p. Jagged lines inherent in the original source are smoothed and vertical resolution is enhanced. Another exclusive is JVCís Five-Point Color Management that separately adjusts red, green, blue, yellow and flesh tones to deliver vivid color reproduction. Both sets also include dual auto sensing component video inputs, assuring the best possible picture quality whether a viewer is using DTV, D-VHS or DVD, and three S-Video (two rear, one side) inputs and four AV inputs (three rear, one side). For top-quality audio performance all sets offer BBE High Definition Sound Enhancement and JVCís new A.H.S.+ (Advanced Hyper Surround), which features improved center channel performance via oblique cone speakers that direct sound upward throughout the room for increased realism. The HD-70G886 and HD-61Z886/786 are available at nationally advertised values of $6,999.95 and $4,699.95, respectively.
