Following on a phenomenally successful MacWorld Expo/New York '99 debut, Escient's Digital Storage Group presents its new dual drive 200-disc CD/DVD jukebox. This unique FireWireô peripheral provides more than one terabyte of digital storage space. The Escient C200 CD/DVD jukebox gives users the ability to store, control, and manage a wide variety of productivity and entertainment media, including DVD movies, music CDs, CD-ROMs, and DVD-ROMs. The announcement was made today by Chris Stevens, Chie Executive Officer of Escient's Digital Storage Group, base in Los Gatos, California. Scheduled to ship in November 1999, Escient's C200 was developed with the Small Office/Home Office/Graphics market in mind. However, the C200's powerful capabilities make it a viable alternative to the existing, higher-priced products currently being used in the enterprise market. It will carry a suggested retail price of $1,499. Until now, hardware systems with similar media storage capabilities typically cost $5,000 to $15,000, and usually required extra software costing $5,000 to $7,000. Escient's C200 CD/DVD jukebox's $1,499 suggested retail price includes a software solution for both the Apple Macintosh (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Microsoft Windows (NASDAQ: MSFT) platforms.Escient's C200 DVD changer offers technologically advanced storage, control, and management capabilities. It can also distribute media to numerous shared clients over a network. The browser provides each client with a combined list of all media in every jukebox. Up to 63 jukeboxes can be daisy-chained together in a tree configuration for media distribution to other workstations throughout a network.According to Stevens, ""The Escient CD/DVD changer will revolutionize digital storage and productivity for the Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) user. The release of this groundbreaking new product offers members of this and other markets the ability to store, control, and manage huge amounts of digital media with great ease and rapid accessibility at an affordable price point. Like all Escient products, the new Escient C200 simplifies otherwise complex technology, and makes it easy to use for everyday applications.""Escient's Digital Storage Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of Escient Inc. in Carmel, Indiana. The Digital Storage Group' focus is to bring powerful yet affordable digital storage solutions to both the SOHO and larger business markets. The Escient C200 CD/DVD jukebox combines the latest FireWire(TM) (IEEE-1394) technology with easy to use software providing a new solution previously unavailable to these markets.Visit Escient on the World Wide at http://www.escient.com.
