Encore Joins PVR Watchdogs

Encore Media Group has joined the Advanced Television Copyright Coalition. The coalition was established last month by founding members CBS Corp., Discovery Communications Inc., the Walt Disney Co., News Corp. and Time Warner Inc. to protect the copyrights of program content that might be manipulated by new home digital video recording devices. Each of the companies that established the coalition, except News Corp., has an equity investment in one or both of the two digital video recording companies, TiVo and Replay. The coalition members say they have no issues with TiVo and Replay so far but want to protect their rights against new developers of the so-called personal video recorder technology.
