Onkyo U.S.A., the respected manufacturer of high-performance audio components, has announced the introduction of an innovative new compact disc recorder/player. The DX-RD511 performs CD recording using both the write-once CD-R and record-erasable CD-RW formats, as well as conventional CD playback functions. The unit features two independent disc trays and flexible mode selections along with a wide array of powerful recording and dubbing options. ""With CD-R and CD-RW media both reaching genuinely accessible prices worldwide, recordable-CD is fast becoming a viable and tremendously attractive option,"" says Sergio Batista, Onkyo U.S.A., National Product Manager. ""Consumers have discovered the ideal tool for archiving disc and tape recordings and for making ""mix disc"" compilations for portable use, thanks to the universal playability of the CD medium. The DX-RD511's compatibility with both recording-CD formats gives consumers important options. The inexpensive CD-R disc is a write-once system that, once finished, cannot be edited or re-recorded, but delivers highly affordable, full CD-quality recordability in a universal format. Finished CD-Rs will play on virtually any CD player, home, car, or portable (or personal computer CD-ROM drive), worldwide. The CD-RW medium records with identical, full-CD quality, but permits recordings to be appended or entirely erased and re-recorded, at subsequent sessions. These include dedicated recorders like the DX-RD511, many DVD players, and all Universal Disc Format (UDF) drives from both the PC and consumer electronics worlds, among which number DVD/RAM drives, many latest-generation CD-ROM drives, and over please some new-model CD players. ONKYO's new DX-RD511 combines the best aspects of a digital recorder, a dubbing deck, and a CD changer in a single easy to use and very affordable component. Two side-by-side compact disc trays allow fully automated recording from CD to CD-R/RW, permitting dubbing of an entire disc, or of selected tracks via fast and easy record-programming. What's more, an automated double-speed mode enables owners to record CD tracks or an entire disc in half the time. Of course, during normal-speed recording the source disc can be monitored, whether for quality assurance or simply for listening enjoyment. ONKYO's auto-finalizing function greatly simplifies the recording, making disc-recording as easy and familiar as the tape formats to which most consumers are best accustomed. With two disc-trays and dual optical pickup/transport mechanisms, the DX-RD511 can also function as a ""two-disc changer"" permitting extended playback, dual-disc track-shuffling, and even cross-fading alternate-play in ""DJ"" mode. The DX-RD511 incorporates a sophisticated, high-speed sample-rate converter, enabling it to record with maximum fidelity virtually ail digital sources, regardless of sampling frequency, between 32kHz and 48kHz. To maximize record/playback quality of both digital and analog sources, the DX-RD511 uses Onkyo's sophisticated, extended-dynamic range one-bit DIA technology and high-speed delta-sigma analog-to digital converters. The results speak for themselves, with recording S/N approaching 98 dB, essentially perfectly flat response over the entire audible band, and distortion of less than 0.006% With full remote control from the supplied wireless handset, a 20-track music-calendar display, CD-TEXT readout, and full disc-programming, skip/search, and all the usual CD transport functions, the DX-RD511 also makes a highly capable conventional compact disc player, eliminating the need for a second play-only compact disc component.Available: October 1999 Manufacturer's suggested price: $699.95For more information, contact Mark Friedman at 770 867 6300.
