SightSound.com Relaunches Web Site Premiering With The World's First Online Video Store Offering Downloadable Movies
SightSound.com (www.sightsound.com) is debuting with the first virtual video store to offer films for rent or purchase through digital download. Dozens of filmmakers and production companies have joined SightSound.com in this new entertainment format with more than 60 films currently available. ""Itís about convenience,"" said SightSound.com President and Chief Executive Officer Scott Sander. ""At SightSound.com we will never charge a late fee, we never charge to rewind and we're always open."" The site allows viewers to browse through their favorite genres, pick from new releases and view trailers before renting or buying the film of their choice. The movie downloads to the viewer's computer hard drive. It can then be viewed at full-screen, 30-frames-per-second picture quality with great sounding audio. Another facet is the ""Coming Soon"" section where SightSound.com will announce coming attractions. More than 800 titles will have varying street dates over the next several months including ""My Name is Dirt"" from Pay Dirt Productions, starring Jenna Jameson, Danny Masterson (""That 70s Show""), Julie Benz and David Faustino (Bud Bundy from ""Married, With Children""), premiering with SightSound.com on September 19. SightSound.com rented the first movie online in April 1999 with Darren Aronofsky's ""Pi."" The four-year-old Internet company has since captured the attention of Internet users worldwide with the announcement of ""The Quantum Project"" from Metafilmics, the first big budget motion picture slated for direct release to the Internet with SightSound.com in Spring 2000. A range of interests are represented on the site including Matchstick Productions' extreme skiing flicks ""Sick Sense"" and ""Pure Vida""; Homegrown Pictures' independent film ""Sudden Manhattan""; Perfect 10's ""Perfect 10 Model of the Year""; Rosanna Arquette in ""Fait Accompli"" from Cutting Edge Entertainment; and Troma's ""Cannibal, The Musical"" (from the creators of ""South Park"") and ""The Chosen One,"" starring Carmen Electra and ""Toxic Avenger.""
