Disney Boosts DVD Prices

Within a couple of weeks after announcing its plans to release nine animated classics on DVD this fall for a limited 60-day issue, Disneyís Buena Vista Home Entertainment quietly raided its suggested retail price $5 to $39.99. But according to the company, the minimum advertised price will remain $29.99. While $39.99 is usually reserved for Special Edition titles with extra supplementals, the Disney releases have no such extras. Even so, with the competitive nature of the Internet, already online retailers are preselling ""Pinocchio,"" the first animated classic to be released on October 26, well below the MAP price. The title is listed at Amazon.com for $20.99 and at Reel.com and DVD Express the listed price is $23.99.
