Academy Puts Tech Advances Up For OscarsÆ
Nineteen scientific and technical achievements have been selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' scientific and technical awards committee for consideration for 1999 Oscars. ""We announce these achievements so that those with claims of prior invention or with devices similar to those we have under consideration can advise us of their situation,"" scientific and technical awards committee chairman Richard Edlund said. The deadline for notifying the Academy is October 1 at 5 p.m. PDT. Demonstrations of selected achievements will be conducted Oct. 26 at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theatre. Scientific and technical Oscars will be presented March 4 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire.
