Digitalethos Theatre System Previewed At CES
Event Electronics, a leader in active near-field studio monitors and PC-based professional digital recording, Lee Adams, co-founder of Soundstream Technologies, and Peter Madnick, president of DTG, Inc. used CES í99 to provide the industry a preliminary glimpse of their new digitalethos home theatre system. ""Digitalethos will offer the market a distinct alternative; in many respects, weíve ëraised-the-bar,"" stated Lee Adams, Eventís new vice-president of Consumer Products. Along with the obvious appeal of an upgradable digital system topology, many people will be surprised by the systemís installation friendliness, museum-like cosmetic options, and overall value."" Adds Peter Madnick, the systemís digital designer, ""The digitalethos surround/controller sends S?PDIF to our amplified loudspeaker via easy-to-terminate CAT5 wiring. Itís then decoded by multiple 24bit/96k DACs. We call this digital/e-bus. Itís simple and effective."" Adams continues, ""While digitalethos was designed as a total theatre concept, itís not a closed system. Weíve engineered the architecture to be both open and ëfuture-friendlyíÖ for example, you can drive our digital speakers with virtually any digital or line-level analog signal; weíre even setting them up so they can even be directly controlled via PHASTlink. The Elements The digitalethos line consists of four active loudspeaker models and a theatre controller, and is connected by digital/e-bus. These elements can be configured based and cube subs, and on-wall applications. General system features include: Theatre Controller The system controller comes complete with broadcast-like quality switching (including component video), Dolby Digital, DTS, Circle Surround, and analog Tuner. There are PHASTlink and RS232 ports, high-definition 5.1 digital/e-bus outputs, a 2nd Zone out, and a hand-held backlit IR system remote. Active Digital Loudspeakers A building-block family of studio quality loudspeakers with digital crossovers and 24bit/96k d/a conversion powered by built-in ""pro-audiophile"" amplifiers accept Eventís 5.1 digital/e-bus, s/PDIF, AES/EBU and both balanced XLR and single-ended analog inputs., Directly controllable via PHASTlink and IR remote. Available in stealth/utility , and museum-like milled aluminum and exotic wood finishes. The complete system expected to retail at under $13,000, digitalethos.
