Analog TV Will Fade To Black In The United Kingdom By 2010

Culture Minister Chris Smith is expected to announce at the Royal Television Society Conference in Cambridge that the United Kingdom will switch off the analog TV signal by 2010, or as soon as digital take-up has reached 90 percent of the U.K.'s 22 million TV homes, government sources said Thursday. The move could make the United Kingdom the first country in the world to operate only digital television, freeing up additional communications bandwidth for a range of advanced communications services.
