Faroudja Laboratories, the Silicon Valley firm widely regarded as a leader in high-tech video-enhanced technologies for professional and home environments, demonstrated its award-winning, top-of-the-line HDTV-capable RP5800 High Resolution Rear Screen Projection System, which offers unparalleled performance and flexibility, at the Consumer Electronics Show. The RP5800 is a complete performance package that can be easily integrated into any home theatre, and takes full advantage of HDTV and any interlaced 15.75kHZ video format. It's a consideration for consumers who desire the high-performance, film-like images Faroudja technology can provide, but do not want or are unable to use two-piece projection systems due to such conditions as high ambient light levels, rooms that limit projector installation, or the desire to have a home theatre installed immediately. The design of the RP5800 takes a no-compromise approach to producing high-resolution images from any of the HDTV formats. Using a high bandwidth multiscan projection engine, the RP5800 can display 480P, 720P, 1080I and 1080P images at native scan rates. In addition, computer resolutions up to 1280 X 1024 progressive can be displayed. The RP5800 signal processing handles 75MHz bandwidth (1080I HDTV requires 30MHz), and stores up to 32 scan rates. Up to eight aspect ratios can be stored for each scan rate. An Auto-Iris CCD camera system is built-in to improve screen set-up and maintain accurate red, green and blue convergence. The optics provide accurate corner-to-corner focus with liquid-coupled lenses, a front-service mirror and a dual-element Black Stripe screen. A key component in the RP5800 is the inclusion of Faroudja's award-winning VP 250 line processor circuitry. All interlaced NTSC- and PAL-based sources are upconverted to 480P or 580P using Faroudja's Picture Plusô technology. The result is an image resembling 35mm film in color detailed and dramatic impact.
