Sony Introduces New Digital Television Receiver/Decoder

Sonyís new digital television receiver/decoder, which allows todayís high-performance , analog televisions to display downcoverted digital programming, is now shipping to retailers. For analog televisions, the DTR-HD1 will downconvert over-the-air digital broadcast signals to analog signals and pass them through to the televisionís analog tuner. The downconverted digital broadcasts are enhanced, resulting in bolder colors and sharper horizontal resolution. Model DTR-HDR also enables most front-projector home theatre displays to exhibit high-definition signals, if the system has the necessary inputs (RGBHV sync) to receive HD images. The new Sony receiver/decoder can receive all 18 ATSC recommended DTV formats. ""There are now several programs broadcast digitally, with more being added all the time, said Vic Pacor, Senior Vice President of Television and Digital Media Marketing for Sony Electronicsí Consumer Products Marketing Group. ""For consumers who want to receive digital programming through their analog TVs, our receiver/decoder is an ideal solution. And, for businesses and home theatre enthusiasts who want to present a true high-definition television viewing experience, it is a tremendously cost-effective way to enjoy new value in their front projection systems.""
