Yamaha And Minnetonka Audio Software Provide Basis For Under $10,000 Surround Mixing Suite
Yamaha Professional Audio recently announced its recommendation of equipment to provide end users the ability to completely mix and master projects in a 5.1 surround sound environment. The recommended package would retail under $10,000 and is based around the Yamaha DS2416 digital mixing card and Minnetonka Audio Mx51 surround mixing/mastering software The package includes a Yamaha 01V digital mixer with DSP Factory interface and controller; MY8AT ADAT interface card for the 01V; AX16AT ADAT interface card for the DSP Factory; five Yamaha MSP5 powered studio monitors; a Yamaha SW10 subwoofer; a Pentium III 450 MHz computer including 96 M RAM, a 17-inch monitor, 4X CD writer; as well as a MIDI interface, motorized joystick pan controller and CD burning software. He explains, ""With the success of the Yamaha DSP Factory and the 01V digital mixer, and utilizing these products in conjunction with the Minnetonka Mx51 software, end users now have the ability to do complete surround sound mixing for a fraction of the cost of other systems."" The Minnetonka Mx51 program enables the 01V digital mixer to control the DSP Factory fader functions. A motorized joystick panner allows hands-on and mouse-free operation. The software features comprehensive track editing, exclusive drag-and-drop mixing architecture, 5.1 busing, panning, low frequency management, and mastering capabilities. Mx51 includes an integrated interface to optional SurCode software, Minnetonkaís AC-3 encoder for Dolby Digital surround sound. With SurCode users can generate an AC-3 file from six 5.1 discrete .WAV surround mix files, and this file can then be burned onto a CD-R and played back on a DVD.
