Hong Kong Electronics Show Set For October 12-15

The strong representation of Asian exhibitors at this year's Hong Kong Electronics Fair indicate that the demand for electronic products is on the rise with the improving Asian economy. The fair, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), is the largest of its kind in Asia and will be opened from October 12 - 15 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is expected that this year's fair will attract more than the 1,438 exhibitors from 22 countries that took part in last year's show. While the number of Hong Kong exhibitors remained steady in 1998, exhibitors from Korea and the Chinese mainland increased 85 percent and 25 percent. The total number of overseas exhibitors also increased by 19.7 percent. ""This welcomed development is due partly to the steady demand for Asian and Hong Kong electronic products in the US and EU"" said Anne Chick, TDC's Deputy Senior Manager of Exhibitions. She added: ""The continued economic growth in the US and EU during the second half of 1999 will further stimulate the demand for electronic products from Asia. More Asian suppliers are making the fair the launching pad for the products they are planning to promote in the Asian and world markets."" Exhibitors at this year's fair will showcase the latest models of consumer electronic products and equipment including audio-visual equipment, home appliances, electronic gadgets, computers, telecommunication equipment and electrical accessories. This year's show will also highlight a number of exciting features that include: - The Frontiers of Brainpower - Following its first success last year, this separate section will continue to display technological innovations of hi-tech companies and universities. Frontiers will match inventors with industrialists with the aim of transferring technological advances from research laboratories to industrial application. - ElectronicAsia - This fair will run concurrently with the Electronics Fair and will have two new elements: the World of Display Technology and the Display Technology Symposium. Both will provide a structured, vertically integrated and comprehensive overview of what the display sector has to offer from materials and equipment to products and services. - Asian Electronics Forum - This Forum will feature notable speakers from around the world and offer participants a chance to explore the trends, challenges and business opportunities in the electronics industry. The electronic industry is Hong Kong's largest merchandise export earner and in 1998 the industry accounted for 31percent of Hong Kong's total exports amounting to $53.1 billion.
