Genelec Launches The 1036A Active Monitor

Genelec announces the introduction of the 1036A Active Monitor. Designed for large home theater installations, the 1036A is a 430 litre speaker enclosure with a 19-ainch electronics rack, containing active crossovers, bass, midrange and treble power amplifiers, plus sophisticated protection and diagnostic circuitry. In a stereo configuration, the 1036A can produce peak sound pressure levels in excess of 136dB. Room response controls are included to allow the speakers to be matched to the acoustic conditions of any listening environment. Genelecís unique Directivity Control Waveguide Technologyô (DCW) minimizes the systemís sensitivity to its environment, and gives excellent stereo imaging and frequency balance even in difficult acoustic situations. Bass frequencies are reproduced by two long throw 480mm (18-inch) woofers, in a vented, dual chamber configuration, with a -3dB point at 19Hz. Midrange frequencies are reproduced by two 130mm (5-inch) high sensitivity, proprietary direct radiating cone drivers. The high frequency driver is a 25mm (1-inch) throat compression driver with an upper -3dB point at 22 kHz. Mid and high frequency drivers have field replaceable diaphragms and are mounted within the DCW. The system can be set up vertically or horizontally simply by rotating the DCW unit, and is designed to be flush-mounted. The 1036Aís Audio Processing Units contain the crossover, diagnostic and protection circuits which monitor the amplifier channels for each driver, and automatically reduce the monitorsí input gain, thereby protecting the drivers from overload and distortion. Because the gain of the entire monitor is reduced, rather than just that of the over loaded channel, frequency balance is preserved. The protection circuitry also guards against DC, shorting and excessive temperature, and takes appropriate action when necessary to prevent damage. LED displays show the systemís condition in detail on the APU, and in summary on the loudspeaker enclosure. Treble, midrange and bass amplifiers produce 300, 600 and 2200 watts of short term power, respectively, with very low harmonic and inter-modulation distortion. The electronics have been carefully designed to ensure the highest sound quality possible. The amplifiers are also thermally protected. Genelec, the pioneer in Active Monitoring technology, was founded in 1978 and has concentrated its efforts and resources into the design and manufacturing of active monitoring loudspeakers with unparalleled sonic accuracy. Genelec has been credited with promoting the concept of active monitors, a trend in technology that some manufacturers are now just incorporating into their products. The result is an active Home-Theater monitoring system with accurate imaging, extremely high acoustic output from a very small enclosure and true high-fidelity with low-distortion and deep, rich bass.
