Aegis Lighting Control System Exceeds Expectations

Home Systems Plus, a member of the Lenbrook Group, announced at the CEDIA Expo ë99 that sales and reliability of the hardwired Aegis Lighting Control (ALC) system have far exceeded expectations. According to Jeffrey Jerome, Vice President of Marketing ""The market has embraced the Aegis Lighting Control system because it provides the features of premium lighting control systems at the cost of an X-10 system. The reliability has been so good, that we get almost no tech support calls on the product"". The Aegis Lighting Control System consists of special ""decorator style"" wall switches that can be precisely controlled as part of the Aegis Home Management system. The ALC system can instantly provide precision lighting levels (within 1 percent) or fade to pre-determine levels over minutes or hours. Each switch is linked to the Aegis controller via a single twisted pair cable that is ""daisy chained"" from one switch to the next. Aegis Lighting Control is unique in that X-10 protocol switches can be controlled simultaneously with the Aegis ALC hardwired switches. This allows ALC to be used with X-10 protocol ""lamp modules"" and controlled receptacles to provide the industryís first ""complete lighting solution"".The Aegis Scene Switch provides seven user labeled buttons that allow users to instantly select lighting scenes, house modes or even background music. Next to each of the buttons is a programmable indicator light to show status and large attractive label describing its function. Labels can be created on any word processor. The user can control Aegis lighting via the Scene Switch, Telephone, Aegis Console, Aegis Touch Screen or Personal Computer. For example, the user can use any telephone in or out of the home to hear that the living room light is illuminated 32 percent and then change that level to say 78 percent. Although the system has many manual control options, Aegisí event-driven system is intelligent enough to alleviate the need for most manual lighting control. Aegis automatically calculates sunrise and sunset each day and can trigger lighting events to occur up to two hours before or after sunrise or sunset. Because Aegis is also a fully integrated UL security system, lighting can be triggered by doors opening, motion in a room (as detected by a motion sensor) or by arming/disarming the security system.
