Atlantic Technologís System 270 Speakers Awarded THX SelectÆ
Atlantic Technology has announced that its System 270 home theatre speaker system has been awarded THX SelectÆ certification. The six-piece system, now designated System 270 THX, has a redesigned center channel speaker to comply with the home theatre performance standards set by LucasFilm1s THX Home Program. All other components remain the same. System 270 has already earned rave reviews in several of the leading home theater magazines for delivering exceptional sound quality on movies and music. This added refinement brings THX Select performance to consumers at a more affordable price. The modified Model 273m C center channel speaker uses the same component parts as the 273 C. However, the tweeter has been moved up higher on the front baffle allowing the woofers to be moved closer together. This change modifies the horizontal dispersion of the speaker in keeping with the requirements for THX Select certification. The new 273m C center channel still includes Atlantic1s famous tiltable base, allowing consumers to easily aim the speaker, further maximizing its performance. It has three sonic adjustments on its back panel, High Frequency Level, Boundary Compensation, and Midrange Presence to allow optimum matching of the three front speakers. The result is the 273m C is the most flexible center channel speaker on the market today, as it can be precisely matched not only to the other System 270 components, but also to other brand speakers in a mix-and-match system. The System 270 THX is the only THX Select speaker system currently using dipole surrounds - a design characteristic required in higher end THX UltraÆ certified systems. The 274 SR surround speaker1s dipole configuration provides enhanced ambience and defeats undesirable localization. The 274 SRs are available in black or white, and are designed to mount easily on a wall, shelf, or speaker stand. An optional kit provides recessed wall mounting. The 272 PBM 12-inch powered subwoofer has a 225-watt high-current discrete Class A/B amplifier and uses a sealed enclosure. The built-in crossover has an adjustable low-pass filter and a by-pass position allowing the processor to provide crossover filtering. There is also a front mounted level control, absolute phase switch, and high level inputs and outputs. With the certification of System 270 THX, consumers now have LucasFilmís assurance of exceptional home theater and music sound reproduction in an affordable, mid-priced package.
