NHT has introduced a new, high-performance, 2-way, in-wall loudspeaker. Designated 1.5 Ci, the new model is based on the company's acclaimed Model 1.5 freestanding speaker and is designed for easy custom installation. The new model features a flexible baffle system that creates an in-the-wall acoustic suspension enclosure for optimum bass response.A specially fabricated foam wall brace is included with each pair of NHT 1.5 Ci speakers. The brace encloses the speaker in its own chamber within the wall and the ""box"" created provides optimum air volume for the speaker. The brace further acoustically dampens the walls around the speaker to reduce unwanted material resonance. The moderately priced 1.5 Ci provides true high fidelity performance in an in-wall application. The system utilizes the same high-quality drivers as the original 1.5 acoustic suspension model. The 6.5-inch long-throw polypropylene woofer, matched with the 1-inch fluid-cooled aluminum dome tweeter delivers a frequency response of 47 to 25,000 Hz, ±3 dB. The crossover point is 3.3 kHz, with a slope of 12 dB/octave. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms and sensitivity is 85 dB.NHT has designed a high standard of quality into the 1.5 Ci. The crossover features professional-grade, all-metal, spring-loaded binding posts for permanent wiring connection. The baffle is thicker than the industry standard and the rear surface is ribbed to increase rigidity and reduce vibration. The new speaker can be installed in minutes. The mounting system consists of a 2-piece bezel and baffle and a preconstruction mounting bracket. Raised bosses on the bezel make it easy to install the baffle with one hand, and vibration-absorbing pads acoustically isolate the bezel from the baffle. The versatile preconstruction mounting system permits the speaker to accommodate widely spaced studs and to be placed off-center with no problem. The rectangular speaker measures 13-1/8-inch x 9-inch, requires a cutout of 12-1/8-inch x 8-inch, and easily fits in a standard 2x4-inch wall.NHT's new CS-5.1 Ci has a suggested retail price of $600/pair.About NHTNHT (Now Hear This) is a subsidiary of Recoton Corporation, a global leader in the development, manufacturing and marketing of consumer electronic accessories, loudspeakers and car audio products.
