Burr-Brown Introduces Low-Cost, 24-Bit, 96kHz Audio DAC For DVD Applications

Burr-Brown Corporation (NASDAQ:BBRC) has announced the low cost PCM1744, a general purpose audio digital-to-analog converter (DAC) offering 24-bit, 96kHz performance at an unmatched price for use in high volume, mass market consumer audio applications. The outstanding price/performance of the PCM1744 is ideal for low-cost DVD/CD audio applications, as well as set-top boxes, HDTV systems, and MP-3 players. ""This device is developed specifically for low cost consumer audio systems, such as DVD, that require 24-bit, 96kHz performance at an ultra low price,"" said Mike Centorino, audio product marketing manager at Burr-Brown. The PCM1744 features an on-board 8x digital interpolation filter with optional digital de-emphasis at 44.1kHz. The device accepts 24-bit digital audio data with sampling frequencies up to 96kHz. It operates from a single +5V power supply and offers 95dB dynamic range and -84dB THD+N (Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise). The 24-bit PCM1744 is pin-for-pin compatible with Burr-Brown's existing 18-bit PCM1733 and 16-bit PCM1725. The PCM1744 is priced from $1.95 in 1,000 piece quantities and packaged in a small 14-lead SOIC. Delivery is from stock.
