Princeton Introduces 34-Inch Viewable Flatscreen Monitor Joe Kane-Specified 16:9 Direct-View HDTV Monitor Is Another First In The Industry

Princeton Graphic SystemsÆ, a leading manufacturer of award-winning computer and convergence displays, introduces the Joe Kane-specified AF3.4HDF, a 34-inch viewable HDTV 16:9 (1.78:1) direct-view, flatscreen NTSC/TV/ HDTV/computer monitor. A versatile, no compromise ultra high-performance monitor with a built-in NTSC tuner and PureProgressiveô scan converter, the AF3.4HDF supports video, 480p, 1080i and 720p digital formats as well as displaying VGA, SVGA and XGA graphics from computer sources. The AF3.4HDF is scheduled to begin shipping in the second quarter of next year and its suggested list price has not yet been announced. ""The design goal of the AF3.4HDF is to raise the reference standard for direct-view HDTV while offering backward compatibility with video sources and for VGA, SVGA and XGA output from computers,'' said William Wang, President and Chief Executive Officer of Princeton Graphic Systems. Princeton consulted extensively with industry guru Joe Kane to ensure all performance goals were achieved. Incorporating dual Y Pb Pr to RGB auto detect transcoder matrices, the AF3.4HDF accurately detects and reproduces the color fidelity of standard 480i and 480p sources as well as the expanded color fidelity capability of HDTV. The encoding of the signal from red, green and blue to the Y Pb Pr format of transmission allows for more detail along the red/yellow axis which AF3.HDF reproduces with stunning accuracy. Featuring a 16:9 flat CRT with a special MicroFilterô the AF3.4HDF provides a 7 percent percent increase in color accuracy and 30 percent more brightness and contrast than a standard shadow mask CRT. A wide video bandwidth of 40 MHz ensures an accurate rendition of all HDTV, standard video and computer sources up to XGA resolution with unparalleled clarity and detail. It has a horizontal scanning frequency of 30-50 kHz and is capable of displaying 720p HDTV signals in their native mode. Digital-ready and HD sets are rarely capable of displaying 720p because of the high horizontal scanning frequency required (45 kHz). The monitor is capable of accommodating a variety of applications and features multiple inputs, four aspect ratio presets and three-color temperature settings. The AF3.4HDF is Plug and Play compatible with VGA, SVGA and XGA resolutions from PC and MAC computer sources. It also has a built-in NTSC tuner, line doubler, wireless remote and an RS-232C serial communications port for compatibility with leading automation systems from AMX and Crestron. Included in the AF3.4HDF is a built-in PureProgressive line doubler that improves the resolution of all standard video sources, including the TV tuner. The scan converter (doubler) will detect the origin of source material (video or film) and employ the 3:2 pulldown technique if a film source is detected. This advanced performance creates a progressive-scanned image that is better than stand-alone line doublers that can cost thousands of dollars. The AF3.4HDF's built-in NTSC tuner and all standard video sources connected to the monitor's video inputs are routed to the scan converter (doubler) for image enhancement. This process creates a superior progressive-scanned image that is free of flicker, loss of picture detail and annoying motion artifacts, resulting in a high-quality, affordable display that instantly upgrades home theaters as well as convergence applications. The AF3.4HDF is extremely versatile, featuring an unsurpassed input/output array. Inputs include: one RF input (with TV tuner composite video output and a pair of stereo audio outputs), two S-Video inputs, two composite inputs, one set of component video 480i inputs (for standard DVD players), one set of HD component video inputs (Y Pb Pr) on 75 ohm BNC connectors, one set of RGBHV inputs on 75 ohm BNC connectors and one VGA input (RGBHV). Five pairs of stereo audio inputs, a PC audio input and an RS-232C serial communications port are also provided. The AF3.4HDF is compatible with PC, Windows 95/98 Plug and Play and MAC platforms. The responsibly engineered AF3.4HDF is EPA Energy Starô and VESAÆ compliant and features an exceptional build quality to ensure many years of trouble-free, environment-friendly usage.
