HITACHI/MATSUSHITA/TOSHIBA UNVEIL DVD-RECORDING TECHNOLOGYHitachi Ltd., Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and Toshiba Corp. separately announced last Wednesday, September 30, that each has developed DVD-RAM recording-and-playback technology designed for use in consumer products. The firms are expected to begin marketing products that make use of the technologies, such as recorders and video cameras, as early as next spring. The technologies comply with the video-recording and 4.7-gigabyte DVD-RAM standards set Wednesday by the DVD Forum, an industry standards group consisting of various electronics manufacturers. Users will be able to instantly locate the beginning of a program and also connect with computers and other equipment that will allow for editing. Currently, only DVD players without recording functions are available on the market. Source: Asia Pulse
