DTS Introduces New 5.1 Mastering Encoder Content Providers Can Now Encode Their Own DTS Discs

Digital Theater Systems (DTS) today announced the availability of the new CAE-4 Mastering Encoder, a reference encoder for both DVD-Video titles and multichannel Music CDs. The CAE-4 is designed to take the six audio channels in the form of three AES/EBU pairs, and generate a DTS bitstream into a single AES/EBU output. This model is now available, along with the CAD-4 Studio Decoder, supporting content providers all over the world with the tools to create their own DTS-encoded software. ""When the DTS Consumer Products division was launched in 1996, we began providing an encoding service right at our U.S. headquarters. However, the worldwide demand for DTS-encoded software has now risen to the level where it is now more efficient and cost-effective for many content providers to encode their own DTS soundtracks,"" explained Jon Kirchner, DTS Executive Vice President of Operations. ""This reference-quality component will enable their engineers to create accurate DTS-encoded bitstreams for DVD movies and concert videos, as well as 5.1 Music Recordings on compact disc."" For ease of operation, the front panel controls have been kept to a minimum. They include selections for triggering mode, surround gain, LFE on/off, 2-channel/5-channel selection, DVD data rate selection and a system reset. In addition, status LEDs are provided to monitor the incoming audio sampling rate and the timecode mode status. The rear panel has XLR connectors for the three AES/EBU inputs, a timecode input, and the AES/EBU bitstream output. The DTS Mastering Join/Check Software Suite is also included with the encoder, to provide an efficient way to verify that the encoded material complies with DTS quality requirements and the DVD specifications. DTS was launched with the release of Universal Pictures' and Amblin Entertainment's ""Jurassic Park,"" and since then the company has remained a leader in feature film digital audio with more than 18,000 installations worldwide. DTS Consumer Products, Inc.
