Audiovox Corporation Introduces Three MP3 Products
New Products Mark Companyís Entrance Into The ""Dot Com"" Arena Audiovox Corporation today announced the introduction of its Internet-related products, the MP DJë Series of MP3 Player/Recorders. The MPDJ series allows users to download CD-quality music and audio from the Internet onto a compact player that is palm-sized and has no moving parts. The announcement was made by Patrick M. Lavelle, Director, Senior Vice President, Consumer Electronics. Mr. Lavelle noted that the entry of Audiovox into the endlessly growing Internet marketplace represents new opportunities for the companyís retailers. ""We have already seen the impact being made by the new technology of internet-oriented products,"" he said. ""We believe that the Audiovox MP3 Series gives our retailers new and exciting ways to increase their sales and profits and enter into new markets."" MP3 technology allows users to download any of the hundreds of thousands of song files posted online, and customize song play lists from personal CD collections. The format uses a compression technology that reduces music files to 12 times less than full size. The Audiovox MP-1000 features a 32-megabyte imbedded flash card that can contain between 40 and 60 minutes of music. It has a large, 12-character LCD display with a 3-line function/title readout. The product has a built-in multi-media card port for an additional optional removable 3-megabyte MMC card, complete software and parallel port cable, high-efficiency earbuds and a leather carrying case. The MP-1000 is Windows 95/98 compatible; MRS is $179.00. The MP-2000 features a 64-megabyte imbedded flash card that can hold up to 100 minutes of music and can take an additional optional removable 32-megabyte flash card. The MP-2000 is Windows 95 compatible and will be available in early December with an MRS of $239.00. The high-end MP-3000 has the same options and accessories as the MP-2000 but also includes FM and Personal Digital Recording (PDR) capabilities. The MP-3000 is both Windows 95/98 and Macintosh compatible as well as usable through a Universal Serial Bus Port (USB). Availability is anticipated in December; MRS is $279.00.
