New Fujitsu Plasmavision Display

Fujitsu General America, Inc. announced at the CEDIA Expo, September 24-26, the latest 42-inch Plasmavision display. Two flat-panel monitors, PDS-4221 (Class A) and PDS-4222 (Class B) are the first true high definition plasma display offered by Fujitsu General America. They utilize an innovative technology called Alternate Lighting of Surfaces (ALiS). The new panel and drive method used in both these models allow two scanning lines to be controlled with three electrodes. Rectangular pixels are used instead of square ones in order to fit more pixels on a conventional 42-inch screen. ALiS's brightness measures at 500 cd/m2; almost double that of current Fujitsu plasma products. ""This technology will change the spectrum for which we look at pixilated formats,"" stated Michael Gleason, National Sales Manager of Fujitsu General America. We are now able to achieve high-definition plasma at standard digital prices. ALiS will be a technology that changes the scope of how other manufacturers approach this tier of the market."" These models are one of the thinnest self-contained plasma displays currently offered in the world with a cabinet depth of 3.3 inches and inclusive weight of approximately 69 pounds. The Plasmavision PDS-4221 and PDS-4222 are now available at a suggested retail price of $15,999 (US suggested list price).
