Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Online and Broadcast.com streamed the movie classic Casablanca along with extra features on December 22 while the cable network aired the film. The Casablanca online premiere highlighted a night of simultaneous on-air and online video programming for TCM Onlineís ""Between The Scenes,"" which Turner says is an innovative new way to experience classic movies.Microsoft sponsored the Webcast, whose Windows MediaPlayer was required to watch the film on the Internet. MediaPlayer can be downloaded from the TCM website.""Between The Scenes"" offers expert trivia and behind-the-scenes tidbits that are streamed through the website (www.TCM.turner.com) in time with the movie playing on-air on TCM.""TCM is proud to join with Broadcast.com to help take a classic film like Casablanca into the next century with the rapidly growing technology of streaming media on the Internet,"" said Tom Karsch, TCM Senior Vice President and General Manager. ""Plus, this special Web event will give people who donít get TCM (via cable) a chance to take part in this unique and exciting movie-watching experience.""In addition to Casablanca, TCM.turner.com featured ""Between The Scenes"" presentation of Singiní In The Rain, High Noon and Citizen Kane the same night. The video of those films was not streamed, but rather featured periodically updated still images of the movies.TCM Online also provides trailers of the movies that run on the cable network. The trailers, updated weekly, use Windows MediaPlayer and RealVideo. The Casablanca promotion only used the former because Microsoft was the sponsor of the event.
