Hong Kong To Launch Digital Television Broadcasting

Hong Kong plans to start digital terrestrial television (DTT) broadcasting within two years, subject to satisfactory completion of a technical trial currently under way, said the Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting, K C Kwong. ""We have so far conducted tests on two of the three prevailing DTT standards and we expect the whole trial to be completed in early 2000,"" he said at the Asia Pacific Electronics Symposium 1999 and Intelligent Transportation Technologies Forum organised by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers on Wednesday. He said HK would allow simultaneous telecast of analogue and digital television broadcast in the initial stages. Source: Asia Pulse
